When it comes to our home comfort systems in this part of the country, the focus is obviously on air conditioning systems. We simply don’t experience the very cold weather that they do in many other parts of the country. That being said, though, we do need heaters to take the chill out of the air from time to time. If the time has come to replace your air conditioning system, you may want to consider the use of a heat pump for this very reason.

Why Use a Heat Pump in Miami, FL?

In Florida, we don’t have to worry about cold temperatures for extended periods, and certainly won’t encounter snow or sub-zero temperatures. Even when the weather cools off, it could still be considered “mild” by most accounts. Heat pumps are perfect for use in such conditions.

First of all, an air-source heat pump is definitely going to be able to handle your cooling needs, as it will operate just like a traditional central air conditioner. Heat is drawn out of the air in your home via the evaporation of refrigerant in the evaporator coil. The heated refrigerant then goes outdoors, releases this heat, and heads back inside to repeat the process until your home is sufficiently cooled.

It is with the reversal of this operating cycle that the heat pump really sets itself apart. When the weather cools down too much for your liking, you can use the heat pump in reverse in order to heat your home very efficiently. Now, the refrigerant will draw heat out of the air outside. It will then use that heat in order to warm air for distribution throughout your home. Because heat is not generated, but rather just moved from area to another, this is an incredibly efficient process.
