As you set goals for self improvement in the new year, don’t forget to make resolutions to improve your home. Making plans to maintain your HVAC system can save on energy bills and keep your family comfortable throughout 2017 and beyond.
Schedule A Maintenance Appointment
Start the year right by making sure your system is working its best. During an annual tune up, we’ll make sure all of the components of your HVAC system are running efficiently and will fix any small issues that could turn into bigger problems if not addressed properly now.
Change Your Air Filter Often
We’ll do this for you during a maintenance visit, but if you don’t get around to making an appointment soon, you can do it yourself. When your filter is clogged, the air handler must work harder to push air through the filter, which can really run your energy bills up. A dirty filter also is unable to trap dust and other allergens that bother your family members, so make sure you replace your air filter at least every other month to keep everyone comfortable.
Have Your Ductwork Sealed
If you have some rooms that are always hot in the summer or some that are always cold in winter, you could have leaks in your system’s ductwork. When cool air from the air conditioning or warm air from the furnace isn’t able to make its way as forcefully to certain rooms, you’ll definitely notice a change in temperature in those rooms. We can seal ducts from the inside using Aeroseal so your system works more efficiently.
Upgrade Your System
If it fits in your 2017 budget, consider replacing an old worn out furnace or A/C unit. You’ll enjoy much lower energy bills in a newer appliance that’s been built to work more efficiently. Look for a unit with the ENERGY STAR logo to make the most of your money.
If you don’t need a new unit, think about adding a whole-house purifier or dehumidifier to your existing HVAC system. A purifier will trap and filter pollutants, and a dehumidifier will reduce the moisture that causes mold and mildew to build up.
Switch to a Programmable Thermostat
It’s easy to forget to turn your thermostat up or down when you leave the house or head to bed. A programmable thermostat will allow you to set consistent times when you want to lower or increase the temperature in order to save money. You could also look into a Smart Thermostat that you can control from your phone while you’re away from home.
