As summer continues to heat up, more and more people are relying on their cooling system to get them through the hot season. As people start cranking down their thermostats, they may fall victim to the home cooling myths that tend to start circulating around this time of year. Duggan's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning® wants our customers to understand their cooling system completely so they aren’t fooled by misconceptions and cooling myths. Here are a few of the top myths of home cooling.

1) Bigger Is Better

When you are looking for a cooling upgrade for your home, you may start to look at bigger air conditioning systems. However, switching to a bigger more powerful system isn’t always going to make the impact you would expect. It may just end up costing your more on your monthly utility bills. For many, the problem with cooling their house isn’t the air conditioning at all but rather air leaks. Check the weather stripping around your home and try to detect anywhere cool air will seep out. By fixing the drafts in your home, the better your existing air conditioning system will work.

2) Fans Will Help Cool Your Home

While fans are a fantastic way to move stale air around your home, they do nothing to cool the air itself. It will just make you feel cooler by blowing air onto your skin. The only way a fan itself can make your home cooler is if you have a room full of trapped warm air that needs a current to guide it out.

3) Turning the Thermostat All the Way Down Helps Cool Your Home Faster

Your home’s cooling system will begin to cool the house at an even pace, no matter if you set the thermostat to 73 or 63. If you forget to change the thermostat back up, you may just end up wasting a lot of energy while creating a home that is much too cool. For more information regarding home cooling systems, contact Duggan's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning®.
