Various electrical installations in your home have important jobs throughout the winter, and it is highly suggested that you plan on getting them taken care of before the holiday season begins. With the holiday season comes a lot of expectations from these home components, so those circuit breakers, heating units, outlets, and other electric elements should be repaired and installed long ahead of time to prevent any complications with them later. Here are some of the electrical strains that your home can face this holiday season.

Dependency on Heat

As soon as we hit the end of October and into November in both Georgia and South Carolina, temperatures begin to drop. That is certainly not something that happens to us very often, so our first reaction is to turn our heaters way up! Whether you use a heat pump, furnace, a ductless mini split system or another method, our heating systems are working around the clock throughout the holiday season. Before you really begin to rely on yours, it’s wise to have your current system serviced to see if there are any potential issues that could arise. If you think your current method of heating has gotten up there in age, it’s the perfect time to install a new one. At Duggan’s, we can help you decide on the best model to suit your needs.

Lights and Decorations

If you are like many of us, you like to decorate your home when the holidays finally roll around! Nowadays, especially with Christmas decorations, there are always new things to put up. Practically all of them depend on electricity, from standard lights to inflatables, and you can expect to be using more power. To have the best house on the block, you’ll want to have your outdoor outlets checked out – to make sure they work and that they are safe. Inside, you’ll want to have your circuit breakers looked at, as they are your best protection against electrical home fires. A truly opulent Christmas tree is going to require many lights, and if you are too far from an outlet, you will need an extension cord. Extension cords are dangerous if used permanently, and during the holidays, you should never leave the decorations that require them on and unattended for too long. A circuit breaker cannot detect the overheating of the main cord, and that in turn could cause a fire. Also, if you are unboxing your lights and you see too many have been damaged, it’s much safer to simply replace the strand, because that’s another major home fire risk.
