Air conditioning is a must in the summer when you want to stay cool. Regular A/C repair and maintenance can ensure that your heating and cooling unit runs reliably and efficiently every season. At Cullins One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning®, we want to make sure you are prepared. Here are a few tips to keep you cool all summer.

1. Use your windows strategically.

Open windows while you’re sleeping so that you can take advantage of the cool night air. When you wake in the morning, turn the air conditioning back on. Be sure to shut all the windows and blinds.

Window coverings can help you to keep the house cool without having your air conditioning work too hard. With these, you can prevent heat from coming in through your windows. Room darkening blinds and drapes provide extra insulation against extreme heat in the summer and cold drafts in the winter.

2. Adjust your thermostat.

Learn how to operate your thermostat. You want to set it as high as is comfortable in the summer so that it’s not running without reason. When you’re not at home, remember that there’s no reason for the AC to be running at its coolest. It’s a good idea to look into a programmable thermostat if you don’t already have one so that you can have the temperature change automatically based on your schedule. Saving money doesn’t mean you need to be uncomfortable.

3. Use ceiling fans.

Ceiling fans can help to cool your home and lower your energy bill at the same time. You may be able to increase the thermostat settings by about four degrees without noticing. This is because fans will keep your skin cool by speeding evaporation of any moisture from your skin. Fans take much less energy than an air conditioner, so using them strategically can help to decrease your energy bill.

A bathroom fan should be turned on when you shower, too, because it removes the heat and humidity quickly. This way, the hot shower isn’t heating up your room and causing the A/C to run.

We hope that these tips will work to keep your home comfortable throughout the summer months. If your air conditioning is not working for any reason, call us so that we can take a look. Our goal is to ensure you enjoy the summer in comfort.
