HVAC systems are some of the hardest working and most complicated systems in our residential properties. We may not think about them often and trust that they will work – until something goes wrong. The trick to staying ahead of the malfunction is routine service, but have you ever wondered how our HVAC systems work? Here is an inside look at how the different parts of an HVAC all come together to keep your home comfortable, provided by Renovate America.

HVAC Systems Both Heat and Cool

Your HVAC system has an indoor and outdoor component. These machines have the power to both heat and cool, making thermostats essential. Because you set the warm or cool temperatures, the thermostat monitors your temperatures and will adjust if there are any unexpected temperature increases or drops. Without your thermostat to trigger the machine, you would be dealing with extreme temperatures. Furnaces are attached to an HVAC system, and when you need warmth, it will turn on to heat and circulate air all-around your property.

The Cooling Components

The cooling components of an HVAC system that ensure you have cool air in the summertime are the evaporator coil, the refrigerant lines, and the condensing unit. The evaporator coil is the part of the inside portion of the machine that actually cools down the air, which is then moved to be circulated out when you need relief from the hot temperatures. It does this after receiving refrigerant from the attached lines. The refrigerant is in a gaseous state until it reaches the condensing unit. The condensing unit is located outside and contains all of the refrigerant gas that becomes liquid, before being turned back into gas when it reaches the evaporator coil.
