After the start of the pandemic in 2020, Houston area families needing food assistance increased by 74%, and nearly a year and a half later, those numbers have not decreased. Before the pandemic, the Houston Food Bank distributed around 450,000 pounds daily—now they are distributing 928,287 pounds on average each distribution day. To give you a visual of what 928,287 pounds of food looks like, the average mid-size truck weighs around 8,000 pounds. This is a huge (and much needed) undertaking for the Houston Food Bank, and they could use some assistance.

When KHOU partnered with the Food Bank to create the Stand Against Hunger campaign, General Manager of One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating of Houston, Jimmy Sanchez, was glad to participate as a sponsor of the event!

Each year Sanchez finds an important program/cause to be involved with, and this year the Stand Against Hunger campaign was selected. One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating has served the Houston area for over 50 years, and the team is made up of individuals from the community, so being engaged with the community is an effort he finds important.

Over a three-week period, KHOU and the Houston Food Bank are campaigning to collect $50,000, which will provide 150,000 meals to Houston families. This is a goal that requires all hands-on deck, and the involvement of our local community. Sanchez says his team's goal is to “raise awareness with our clients on the need for community support and to back up that need with financial support from our team”.

To make this partnership as successful as it can be, Sanchez’s team is making every client they serve aware of this partnership and giving them the opportunity to participate. Along with that, his team will be donating $25 for every new system installed starting June 7th - June 25th.

By donating funds, the One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating team can give back to the community they live and serve in. This supportive culture is something Sanchez instills in his teams day to day work life, and it translates back into their community. He says the “One Hour AC team takes great pride in supporting our community by providing great customer experience and quality service. In addition, we believe that it is more than just a business, we are a community partner. We are looking forward to the next 50 years of partnership with Houston”.

The funds raised at the end of the campaign will make a difference in the lives of Houstonians in need of food, and One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating of Houston will continue to support the community they serve.
