Furnace filters - everyone has their own opinion as to what is best, how often they have to be done, what type of filter to use; but in reality, who should you trust?

Changing the actual filter is quite easy, doesn’t take that long and doesn’t really require specialist tools.

Inspect

Advice for inspection ranges from every month to every six months, some of it depends on how much you use your system, some of it depends how much you like getting involved with your furnace. On average, we have found that every three months is usual, but our advice would be to monitor it regularly for a few months, once you have found the average time, you can work to that schedule.

Part Numbers

It is always worth noting down any part number that you may find on the filter or housing, it makes it much easier and quicker to sort the replacement, and you know that it will fit first time. You could even buy them in bulk (you ARE going to use them!) for better discount and it saves a trip out every couple of months.

Different types

As with nearly everything in the world now, you have different options for different things. Of course, the sales pitch will tell you all about what makes X filter better than Y filter, but our advice would be just to get a quality replacement. A cheap or useless filter could have a detrimental effect on your system. Call us for advice if you’re unsure.
