When you have to mop the floor or even dust under your kitchen table, resorting to cleaning products—which are overloaded with toxins—seems like the easy route to take. Yet, living in a country that has become so environmentally friendly, it’s recommended that when you can, you should make eco-friendly choices. With that, we have offered some great homemade eco-friendly cleaning solutions you can create and use throughout your home.
Ingredients You Need to DIY:
- Baking Soda
- White Vinegar
- Borax
- Corn Starch
- Lemon Juice
- Sponge
- Piece of Steel Wool
- Toilet Brush
- Water
- Washing Soda
For Your Bathroom:
Make Your Own Tub & Tile Cleaner: To make this solution, rub baking soda into a damp sponge and rinse with some water. For rougher surfaces, wipe your tub or tile with white vinegar, and then follow up with baking soda—used as a scouring powder.
Clean Your Toilet Bowl: For an awesome toilet bowl cleaner, mix 1 cup of white vinegar with ¼ cup of baking soda. Then, pour the mixture into the toilet bowl and let it sit for a couple minutes. Scrub with a toilet brush, then rinse. You can also mix some Borax and Lemon juice to clean your toilet.
For Your Kitchen:
Create Your Own Dishwasher Soap: For DIY dishwater soap, mix together equal parts of washing soda and Borax. Make sure you continue to add more washing soda if the water is making your solution too thick.
Oven Cleaner: To clean out your oven, moisten your oven’s surface with water and a sponge. Then, use ¼ cup of salt, ¾ of baking soda and ¼ cup of water to create a thick cream, and spread it throughout the inside of your oven. Let the cleaner sit overnight. The next morning, remove the cleaner with a spatula and wipe your oven clean. For rougher spots, rub gently with a piece of steel wool.
For Your Bedroom/Living Room:
Rid Carpet Stains: To get out those annoying carpet stains, mix equal parts of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray your solution right on the stain and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then, clean the stain with a sponge using hot soapy water.
If you have a fresh grease spot, put a pinch of cornstarch on the stain and wait about 20 minutes, then vacuum.
If you need more of a heavy duty cleaner, mix together white vinegar, 1/4 cup of salt and Borax. Rub your mixture into the stain and let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum.
Marked Up Walls: Get rid of all those spots of crayon, pencil or marker with this solution. Simply take some baking soda and apply it to a damp sponge. Gently rub the baking soda into your sponge, then wipe and rinse—voila.
