My Delaware home was built before 1940 and has no central air. What are my options?

If the house has furnace ducts, a central air conditioner can often share them, sometimes with a few duct changes. If not, ductless mini-splits can cool and heat room by room without opening walls. You'll see the choices and prices before any work begins.

My furnace and AC are both original to my house. Should I replace them together?

Not always. Furnaces often last 15 to 20 years and air conditioners 10 to 15. If both are near the end and one has failed, a matched system can improve comfort and efficiency. If the other unit has good years left, we'll tell you.

Do you work on heat pumps and electric heat?

Yes. About one in five Delaware households heats with electricity. We repair, maintain and replace heat pumps, electric furnaces and backup heat strips.

How often should my system be serviced?

Heating and Cooling Homes in Delaware

Delaware homes come from two very different eras. Census estimates put the median home in the city at 1995, and more than half were built in 1990 or later. Many still run the furnace and air conditioner the builder put in, and equipment from the late 1990s and 2000s is now at the age where repairs come more often.

The city also has a large stock of older houses. About one home in six was built before 1940, and streets like those in the Historic Northwest District were laid out long before central air. In homes that age, ducts were often added later, which can leave a cold back bedroom in January or a hot upstairs in July. A few duct changes or a ductless mini-split can fix that without opening plaster walls.

Most of the city heats with natural gas. Census estimates show about 78% of Delaware households use utility gas and about 20% use electricity, which means a heat pump or an electric furnace. Propane and fuel oil are rare inside city limits.

I am having a issue with my HVAC system leaking and I had a technician from one hour heating I believe and they told me I had a slew of issue and would cost me over $5,500+ to fix everything. I refused to believe that so I called around and found John and I couldn’t be happier, not only did he come over and explain the issue to where I could understand and how it occurred he was respectful and friendly AND the fix DID NOT cost $5,500 to fix.
