Do you serve homes outside Sunbury city limits?

Yes. We serve the whole 43074 ZIP, including homes in Berkshire and Trenton townships with a Sunbury address.

My house was built in the 2010s. Do I need a new furnace or heat pump?

Probably not yet. Gas furnaces often last 15 to 20 years and heat pumps 10 to 15, and care matters as much as age. A tune-up shows where your system stands, and we'll always give you a repair option when one makes sense.

Why did my electric bill jump in January?

A heat pump that's low on refrigerant, iced over or stuck in defrost can leave the backup heat strips doing most of the work, and they cost a lot more to run. We'll find out why.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the house and call 911 or your gas company from outside. Don't go back in until they say it's safe. Then call us to find and fix the cause.

Heating & Air Conditioning in Sunbury, OH

Your Sunbury Heating and Cooling Team

Sunbury grew up around its town square. The town was platted in 1816, served as a stagecoach stop for much of the 1800s, and still gathers around a New England-style square with a Town Hall built in 1868. Sunbury counted more than 6,600 residents in the 2020 census and became a city in October 2021. I-71, US 36 and State Routes 3, 37 and 61 all meet in or near town, and the Big Walnut Local School District is based here.

One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning® of Delaware keeps Sunbury homes warm in winter and cool in summer. We repair, maintain and replace furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners across the 43074 area, from brand-new neighborhoods to the older homes around the square.

Our promise is simple: Always On Time…Or You Don't Pay A Dime!® If we don't arrive in the window you pick, the service call is free.

Heating and Cooling Homes in Sunbury

Sunbury is a young town when it comes to houses. Census estimates (ACS 2020-2024) put the median year built for Sunbury homes at 2005, and about 4 in 10 homes in the city went up in 2010 or later. A small share, about 8%, dates to before 1940.

How those homes heat is just as telling. About 61% of Sunbury homes heat with utility gas and about 34% use electricity. Inside city limits, AEP Ohio supplies electricity and Columbia Gas of Ohio supplies natural gas. In the wider 43074 ZIP, which reaches into the countryside, about 1 in 5 homes heat with propane.

What that means for your system:

Many homes are on their first system. Furnaces and heat pumps installed in the 2000s and 2010s are reaching the age when repairs pick up.
Electric homes depend on the heat pump. When it struggles, the backup heat strips do more of the work, and your bill shows it.
Rural homes often run on propane. Propane furnaces need the same yearly safety check as natural gas furnaces.
Older homes near the square may have systems that were added onto over the years. We look at the whole setup before recommending anything.

Sunbury Local Insight

Sunbury's fast growth means a lot of neighbors have similar systems reaching similar ages at the same time. If your house was built in the 2000s or early 2010s, your original furnace or heat pump is likely 10 to 20 years old now. Heat pumps get their hardest test in our coldest stretches, when they defrost more often and lean on backup heat. A fall tune-up checks the defrost controls, refrigerant charge and heat strips before that happens.

Seasonal HVAC Tips for Sunbury

Book your furnace or heat pump tune-up in early fall, before the first cold night. Check your filter monthly and change it when it looks dirty. After a snowfall, clear snow and ice from your heat pump's outdoor unit and any furnace vent pipes on the side of the house. A whole-home humidifier helps with dry winter air. In spring, schedule an AC check before the first muggy week.

Very pleased with this company and our technician, Joshua. Scheduling was efficient and fast, they came out the same afternoon that I called. After I had another company come out that morning and tell us they could not fix my furnace dehumidifier, Joshua had it fixed in a short time after his arrival. Pricing was very fair. This is my new HVAC provider!

Andrew was excellent in his detailed review in quoting out a new heating/AC system for our home. He asked what I was looking for and we went room by room reviewing what was in each room. He confirmed that the current layout was very good and the system we had was the correct in its ratings. He prepared our quote as I had asked, no pressure with any additional ons or upsells as I was clear in what we were looking to do. He went over the quote with me line by line asking if I had any questions. Andrew was very polite and professional throughout the whole process. Can’t say enough good things about the dealings I have had with these two gentlemen along with the young lady I talked to on the phone. If you’re on the fence- call these guys.

"Great experience with One Hour Air! They showed up right on time, replaced my thermostat, and did a thorough AC maintenance check. Their pricing was very affordable and honest and their technician James was extremely knowledgeable. He explained everything he was doing and made me feel completely comfortable. He broke everything down clearly and never talked down to me or made me feel stupid. Highly recommend!!!
