Holiday Tips from One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning

‘Tis the season for holiday parties! From food and drinks to décor and music, there’s so much to consider when hosting friends and family. Although it’s very common to care about the temperature of your home during the holiday season and try your best to accommodate your guests, it’s unnecessary stress added to your plate. Luckily, One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning has compiled some tips that can help keep your home comfortable this season.

Properly insulate your home

Prevent the heat in your home from escaping because of poor insulation and air leaks typically around your doors and windows. Use mastic to seal any leaks in your air ducts, replace the weather stripping around your doors and windows, and make sure there is at least six to seven inches of insulation in your attic.

Change your air filter

Regularly changing the air filter on your heating system can help save energy. A clogged or dirty filter can make your HVAC system work less efficiently and add unnecessary wear and tear on your system.

Change your thermostat

Now is a good time to consider a programmable thermostat. These can be programmed to lower the temperature when you’re not home and when you are sleeping. Some smart thermostats can even learn when you are not home and adjust the temperature. The Department of Energy estimates you can save 10 percent a year on your heating and cooling costs by installing a programmable thermostat.
