Three DIY Maintenance Tips, Part 1

There are plenty of repairs that you might be performing all around your home and yard, but many of those don’t have the same potential for improving comfort that air conditioning maintenance does. At One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning® of the Bay Area, we want you to be as prepared as possible for this summer, and the next one as well. With a few simple DIY maintenance tips, you can stay cool during the summer and take some of the strain off your monthly expenses as well.

Before you get started, please be sure to turn off the main electricity current to the air conditioner!

Clean the Condenser Fan and Coils

This first tip focuses on maintaining the condenser fan and coils because significant problems can develop when these are neglected. Simply dust off the fan, oil the motor, and look for any visible signs of trouble. You can easily clean the coils by spraying them off with a garden hose. Before you tackle this easy DIY step, take the coil guard out of the unit. This will protect the fins from water and debris.

Clean or Replace Air Filters

No list of Santa Rosa maintenance tips would be complete without this easy step. To improve the air quality in your home, replace the air filter on the A/C unit as often as necessary. It can be cleaned with a soft cloth and a small amount of water. Try to do this every two weeks while the unit is being used. Buy a new filter when the old one appears worn.

Don’t Forget the Air Ducts

“Out of sight, out of mind” is a dangerous attitude when it comes to air ducts. Be sure to clean out the accumulation of dust, dirt, and other debris with a vacuum on a regular basis.

These three simple DIY troubleshooting tips can improve the efficiency of your air conditioner. Contact One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning® of the Bay Area for more information.
